Scientific work is rarely a single file, a single result, or a single person's memory.

It is made up of data, analysis runs, parameters, failures, reruns, collaborators, shared code, and decisions that need to remain understandable long after the work was first done.

With our latest product release, All your Science, One Platform, we are bringing several important improvements together into one larger step forward: a more unified, project-centered science platform.

This release combines four updates that were previously announced inside the app. Together, they make scientific work easier to organise, understand, share, and preserve over time.


A clearer job lifecycle: Run, Rerun, Share

Scientific analyses do not end when a job finishes.

Weeks or months later, scientists often need to understand what a job was intended to do, why it failed, why it was rerun, or why a specific parameter was chosen. Without the right context, important decisions can become dependent on human memory.

With improvements to the core job lifecycle, the platform makes it easier to run, rerun, and share jobs while preserving the context around them.

The intended outcome is simple: jobs should remain interpretable long-term. Scientists should be able to return to prior work and understand what happened without reconstructing the story from scattered notes or memory.

A project-centric experience

One of the biggest changes in this release is the move toward a true project-centric interface.

Until now, what appeared as a "project" in the app was essentially a directory structure: a place to hold data, but not a complete home for the scientific work surrounding that data. Analysis runs, data, and teams were not brought together under one clear umbrella.

At the same time, users had to deal with confusing terminology around “projects” and “experiments.” In practice, these often looked the same to users but were treated differently in the backend depending on license type and data sponsorship.

This created unnecessary friction, especially for new users.

With this release, Project becomes a first-class entity. A project is now the place where a scientist’s analyses, data, and team come together. The project-versus-experiment distinction disappears from the user’s view, and license type determines sponsorship in the background rather than forcing users to learn arbitrary naming differences.

The result is a more intuitive experience: when a user opens a project, they immediately understand what they have, where their data lives, where their analyses are, and who is involved.


Better support for labs and teams

Scientific work often happens across changing teams. PhD students graduate, postdocs move institutions, collaborators change roles, and projects continue beyond any one individual’s time on the team.

First, this release introduces shared team licensing to better reflect how scientific labs operate. Instead of managing separate overhead, a Principal Investigator can now provide a single shared license for their entire team. This makes resource allocation simple while guaranteeing that data, code, results, and intellectual property remain securely anchored to the lab as team members join or move on.

Second, project collaborators can now directly access each other’s virtual desktops within a project. Whether you need to inspect a colleague's workflow, help troubleshoot a complex run, or pick up right where a teammate left off, you can jump straight into the exact same environment without having to transfer files or replicate setups.

For labs, this means the platform better reflects how scientific collaboration, resource allocation, and ownership actually work.


Access D.LAB from a phone or tablet

Scientific work is not always done at a workstation. A long job finishes while you are in a meeting, or a collaborator sends you a link while you are travelling.

DECTRIS D.LAB previously blocked smaller screens from accessing the app. That restriction has been lifted, so you can now access the platform from a phone or tablet. On a phone, it works best with your browser set to desktop mode.

This is not a redesigned mobile interface, and heavier work still belongs on a full screen. But checking whether a run has finished, reading a job's parameters, or opening a shared link no longer means going back to your desk.

One platform for scientific work

Individually, each of these updates improves a specific part of our experience.

Together, they represent something bigger: a move toward one platform where scientific data, analyses, teams, ownership, and results can live together coherently.
